me: (9:33:20 AM) the reality of the amazon marketplace:
me: (9:34:13 AM) amazon will only stock what is sold. i send one cd a week to them on average, which costs me about $2. they take 65% of the sale. i lose money doing business with them.
me: (9:34:31 AM) it’s really great.
me: (9:34:50 AM) also, people still buy cds.
me: (9:34:58 AM) bless them. and curse them. for buying from amazon.
work dude: (9:35:39 AM) can’t you charge more?
work dude: (9:35:44 AM) or just only supply mp3’s?
me: (9:36:23 AM) i could. but ya know, they’ve decided to just cut $3 off my sale price.
me: (9:36:35 AM) i sell mp3s through them as well
me: (9:36:44 AM) i honestly pay little attention anymore
me: (9:37:07 AM) but the once a week package with qty1 is just the height of absurdity.
me: (9:37:19 AM) i do a lot more volume through itunes
me: (9:37:34 AM) and the margin, tho super slim, is actually better
me: (9:38:00 AM) i have to remind myself not to bitch that people like my music enough to buy it
me: (9:38:15 AM) but it’s essentially charity work i’m doing at this point.
me: (9:39:17 AM) i haven’t played a gig in five years. this stuff still sells.
me: (9:39:25 AM) i guess that’s a good thing.
me: (9:40:21 AM) oh, amazon also gives me zero user data
me: (9:40:29 AM) so i have no idea who these people are
me: (9:40:54 AM) i suspect they’re 50-something women who garden and enjoy the company of cats
work dude: (9:41:35 AM) def iPod earbuds, a cat, a stool and digging in some dirt
me: (9:43:09 AM) might be a zune involved.
